History fact: Madras Sepoy of the early 19th century
The Sepoy then wore a scarlet coat and drawers fringed with blue. He wore sandals or travelled bare feet. In his pouch slung on the shoulder he carried rice and condiments. At times even his spacious cap could be used to carry supplies.
